The mix of the reality of Detroit with the mysticism of Haitian Voodou was incredible. Fabiola quickly moves away from being a naive immigrant and assimilates herself into the hardened life of her Aunt Jo and her cousins. It is heartbreaking watching her try to beat the system to be reunited with her mother and stay true to herself. I love the character of Fabiola and found her believably naive as she navigates a new country.
