The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This novel told in poetry format is about a high school girl trying to find her voice and find her identity. Xiomara is frustrated by the tension in her family and the strictness of her mother. With the help of the family priest, her friends, her English teacher, and her strength of character, X finds her voice and becomes The Poet X.
Acevedo does a great job with the characters in this story. It felt so true that I wondered if this story was her own or one she knew well. I’m looking forward to reading her other books.
