Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rainbow Rowell is an expert at the quippy line. Her dialogue is quick and seamless. I wanted to befriend Jennifer and Beth so I could hear their banter.

Attachments is a fun and funny story with relatable characters. I feel like Rowell has observed my every awkward moment and thought and somehow turned the real awkwardness of people’s lives into an amusing, romantic novel.

The setting is 1999 at a newspaper office in Nebraska. The protagonist, Lincoln, is hired as an IT security employee and one of his job tasks is reading flagged emails which leads him to read the quick-witted banter between Jennifer & Beth.

As the story progresses, time creeps closer to New Year’s Eve and the impending Y2K bug.

Through the email exchanges, Lincoln realizes that Beth has noticed him but he’s in too deep to tell the truth.

Rowell’s characters are likeable and flawed enough to feel real. The secondary characters add to the humor and the plot. This was a very enjoyable light read.
