These Violent Delights

by Chloe Gong

Shakespearean feud meets historical 1920s Shanghai with a fantastical mystery twist. First and foremost, as an English major, I love the modern twist on the Romeo and Juliet story. In this story, Roma and Juliette dated on their early teens but have been estranged and in different cities for several years.

Juliette and Roma are both heirs to family businesses and each need to prove to their fathers that they are capable of taking over.

This story is intricate with layers of situations and supporting characters that are easy to follow but also add to the overall story. And without giving too much away, I feel the author could explore this world in subsequent novels.
