On the Come Up by Angie Thomas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This novel is laugh out loud funny while talking about so many deeper social issues. This story ran the gambit of emotions. There were moments I was sad or heartbroken and then moments I was outraged and scared.

Bri wants to be a rapper just like her deceased dad. Bri’s life gas not been easy. After her father dies, her mother becomes a drug addict and her & her brother lived with her grandparents. Bri’s mother has been to rehab and gotten a job and is going to college. But life is not easy for them and after an incident of profiling at her school, Bri pours her anger and frustration into her music.

Bri’s music causes more controversy in her community. Bri’s story is one of hope and survival even when the odds are stacked against.
