Ashlords by Scott Reintkin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This young adult fantasy highlights three of the eleven contestants in the annual Phoenix horse races.

Imelda is a scholarship entrant who should feel lucky just to have a place.

Adrian is the son of former champion who was a revolutionary.

Pippa is the favorite as the daughter of two champions.

There is a lot of fast-paced action in this Hunger Games meets Scorpio Races story. The main three characters are interesting and yet frustrating as they struggle to get ahead in strategy and the race.

Imelda’s narrative circles continuously around how unprepared she is compared to the others. Adrian is audaciously full of himself to the point of taking off his shirt in a press meeting to show off his trained body. Pippa is the mean girl with a boyfriend stereotypical trope to the point of wanting to throw the race so her boyfriend wins.

Ultimately they each must deal with the flaws in their personalities and overcome the dark magic that could unravel them all.
