Lobizona by Romina Garber 4/5⭐️

“What. Are. You?”

These words from the mother of a childhood friend come back to haunt Manu as her life as a hidden immigrant comes to an end as her mother is detained during a raid.

Manu’s eyes give her away. She wears sunglasses to hide their uniqueness and asks her mom why her eyes are like those of the father she never knew. Her eyes are the secret of who she is and where she’s from. Manu and her mother have been in the US hiding for 12 years.

Many finds herself in a Hogwarts type school for Lobizon (werewolves) and Brujas (witches). There are classes, games, and secret entrances s as bf exits into the human world. This does feel similar to the Harry Potter stories but with a different twist.

As the first female Lobizona, Manu is different and that difference causes tension.

This YA fantasy explores timely and exciting themes like immigration, gender rights, gender equality, family, family secrets, and survival.
