White Noise by Don DeLillo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DeLillo’s 1980’s post-modern satire is really a harbinger of the future we live in now. Jack Gladney is a married college professor of Hitler studies.

He has children and stepchildren with his fifth wife, Babette.

The Gladney family are living in a consumerism based suburb. Babette and Jack fear death and are overwhelmed by the technology in their lives.

The family deals with an evacuation due to an unknown chemical leak after a train wreck. Babette takes an experimental medication, and the children participate in simulated evacuation practices.

In the day and age of Covid, masks, and quarantines mixed with school violence, practice Code Reds, this satire hits close to home.

This book can meander too much causing it to become too reflective but somehow that too is reflective of today’s world.
